The Wellbeing Course is our free online and internet-based treatment course designed to teach people about anxiety and depression as well as how to manage their symptoms. Anxiety and depression are common and can have a very significant impact. We developed the Wellbeing Course because many people with depression and anxiety never seek treatment. But, many have access to the internet.

Because depression and anxiety commonly occur at the same time, we thought it was important to provide information about managing each condition in the same treatment Course. So, the Wellbeing Course is what we call a transdiagnostic treatment Course; it is designed to treat multiple conditions and types of symptoms at the same time - stress and anxiety, general anxiety and worry, social anxiety, panic and panic attacks, low mood and depression.

What does the Course involve?

  • 5 online lessons that provide information and teach practical skills for managing symptoms.
  • DIY Guides to help learn and practice the skills.
  • Lots of Additional Resources and Case Stories from others.
  • The option of brief weekly contact with a clinician via email and telephone.

The Wellbeing Course is delivered over 8 weeks and is designed to provide you with practical information and practical, proven, skills for managing symptoms of different types of anxiety, worry, low mood and depression. The Course aims to provide the information and skills that you would normally receive from a Psychologist. We hope it will help people to gain better control over their symptoms, improve their confidence and get back to living a full and satisfying life. The Wellbeing Course has been carefully designed to work with both regular clinician support as well as in self-guided formats.

Who is the Course Suitable For?

  • Adults aged 18 and older.
  • With symptoms of stress, anxiety, low mood and depression.
  • With depression, social anxiety, panic attacks and generalised worry.
  • Who want to learn information and skills to improve the quality of their lives and emotional wellbeing.
  • Who have at least 4 hours per week to spend working on the Course and practicing the skills taught during the Course.

Unfortunately, we cannot include people who are currently suicidal and do not have access to the Internet. We always strongly recommend you discuss your participation in this Course with your GP and other treating doctors.

Our Research Results

We have now had more than 10,000 Australians complete the Wellbeing Course and the results are very encouraging. More than 90% reported the Course was worth their time and that they would recommend the course. Most participants said it was hard work. But, most also make very good improvements in their emotional wellbeing as a result of participating in the course. The Wellbeing Course is now being used by several of our collaborators in several different countries.

Our Current Research

All participants in our courses are participants in important research projects. In our current research (using the Wellbeing Course) we are exploring the relationship between a large range of every day behaviours/activities and emotional wellbeing. We are interested in how certain behaviours/activities change over time after participating in a course like the Wellbeing Course.

We are now in the process of reviewing and revising the Wellbeing Course based on the feedback of this year's participants. We expect to be offering the course again in the first half of 2020.
